Zarosh featured on David Lynch TV
David Lynch Foundation Televison (www.dlf.tv) has a great 20 min feature on Zarosh Eggleston. If you’re not familiar with Zarosh, he’s an amazing creative skateboarder. He rides super big boards and always has crazy grip tape art. He’s so fun to watch skate, because he’s the guy that will be off in the corner somewhere doing stuff that most people don’t even think about. When I first met Zarosh, he was “living” in San Diego and would come by our shop looking for scraps of grip tape. I wasn’t sure about him at the time, until he finally came in to skate our ramps. We had 2 minis, one that had super tight transitions, with two corners and a 3 foot extension, and the other was a pretty standard 5 foot mini. Most people would come over and ignore the ramp that had the tight transitions, because it was really hard to skate. Not Zarosh, he would head straight to that ramp and always pull something that everyone would just be amazed by. He’s definitely a creative guy that you will hear more of in the future. Watch the video and be amazed.

Just about everyone has a iPhone now, it’s a pretty amazing little device. Now, with the new iSkateboard iPhone app, you can find and share skate spots. Currently they claim 30,000 street spots, skate parks and skate shops worldwide. I can see this growing pretty rapidly, especially since they’re currently working on apps for the BlackBerry, G-Phone, Sidekick & Windows ME. Check it out.
Forbes Magazine list of higest paid in action sports
Tony Hawk tops the list with $12 million and The Flying Tomato made an estimated $9 million in 2008. Suspiciously missing from the list is Rob Dyrdek and BAM, who both make at least $1 mill per year. Skateboarding and other board sport stars on average still make a lot less than main stream sports. Tiger, Lebron, Kobe and even Michale Jordan still make well over $40 mill per year.
You can check out the Forbes top 10 list here or here.

San Diego Union-Tribune claims action sports doom
Staff writer Jennifer Davies of the San Diego Union Tribune did a interesting piece on the looming economic times for the Action Sports Industry.
Already struggling with a glut of inventory, the $14.4 billion industry is forecasting sales to fall as much as 25 percent this year. Some surfboard makers say their business is down 30 percent to 40 percent as consumers put off larger purchases.
If you work in the action sports industry, look out, it’s time to be lean. ASR should have been the first marketing expense to be cut.
